Exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with exhibition held September 10 - October 19, 2003. In her essay on Damien Hirst, Annushka Shani describes his exploration of "the uncertainty at the heart of human experience : the confusing relations between love, life and death ; and the tension between flesh and spirit, individual and group, loyalty and betrayal. These new paintings and sculptures make felt the profound conflict between dread and hope, and knowledge and desire -- expressed in the artist's statement, 'I am going to die and I want to live forever. I can't escape the fact, and I can't let go of the desire.'" The sculptures and paintings included in this catalogue -- the preserved bodies of animals floating in formaldehyde; glass cabinets filled with laboratory glassware and other collected objects; paintings of butterflies against a blue sky -- examine and re-configure the stories of Jesus and his disciples. Catalogue includes over 40 color plates of the artist's work, accompanied by a list of included works.
