Exhibition catalogue in the form of an artists' book, produced in conjunction with show held January 14 - March 11, 1995 at Takashimaya Gallery. Essays by Lynn Gumpert and Richard Martin, entitled "Material Meditations" and "Material Dreams," respectively. Artists Han Feng, Ava Gerber, Jim Hodges, Beverly Semmes, and John Swanger were chosen for their explorations of fabric as material in a variety of media. Lynn Gumpert, curator, writes that what connects the artists in "Material Dreams" is an "interest in the ethereality of fabric, a quality they exploit to create dreamlike, haunting artworks." The catalogue consists of a section entitled "Artists' Projects," with a two-page color spread dedicated to each artist's work; a biography for each artist / writer included. The book was carefully designed with several different papers, textured cardstock wrappers, a riveted binding, and a ribbon closure. Designed by Takaaki Matsumoto.
