Recording Conceptual Art : Early Interviews with Barry, Huebler, Kaltenbach, LeWitt, Morris, Oppenheim, Siegelaub, Smithson, Weiner

description

In 1969 Patricia Norvell sat down individually with Robert Barry, Douglas Huebler, Stephen Kaltenbach, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Dennis Oppenheim, Seth Siegelaub, Robert Smithson, Lawrence Weiner [as well as Carl Andre and Joseph Kosuth] and conduced fresh and engaging interviews that are untainted by jargon, fetish, or much critical distance from the beginning of the Conceptual Art movement. This book is remarkable in that it reprints these interviews without intervention [excepting that Andre and Kosuth refused to allow their interviews to be published unedited - thusly they are not within this book]. The artists come off as seeking their territory, affirming their positions and defining their futures. A great read and important artifact of a great moment in contemporary art. Contains introduction by Norvell and essay by Alexander Alberro.
