Invitation to a party on Abbie Hoffman's Lower East Side, New York, roof to benefit the legal defense of The Chicago 8 [which became the Chicago 7 after the case against Bobby Seale was declared a mistrial], held June 7th, [1969], from midnight until dawn. The evening featured an excerpted performance from the play "Che!" by Lennox Raphael. The Chicago 8 were: Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, Lee Weiner and Bobby Seale. "Lennox and the actors face prison terms for a variety of charges including 'conspiracy to commit consensual sodomy' arising out of two busts on the play. Since the play is being presented privately it cannot be busted... Bagels and lox will be served at dawn. Lots of other surprises. Here are some of the folks who have been invited to drop up: Antoni Antonioni, Jimmy Breslin, Rap Brown, Martin Carey, Cousin Clyde, Alan d'Arcangelo, Rennie Davis, Dave Dellinger, Bob Fass, Milos Forman, Alan Ginsburg, Arlo Guthrie, Tom Hayden, Paul Krassner, William Kunstler, Tuli Kuperferberg, Julius Lester, Jacques Levy, Norman Mailer, Dwight MacDonald, Melina Mercouri, Jack Newfield, Mike Nichols, George Plimpton, Otto Preminger, Peter Rabbit, Larry Rivers, Jerry Rubin, Richard Schechner, Terry Southern, Andy Warhol." -- From the invitation. Includes a copy of an article "'Conspirators' Arraigned in Chicago," published in the Guardian on April 19, 1969; a call to join "The Conspiracy;" and a donation form to be sent to Kathleen Cleaver and Susan Sontag, The Conspiracy treasurers.
