description

Artist's book of various-size pages, of various papers of various sizes and materials including vellum, and manilla envelopes; bolted together and contained in a wood box, with the title burned into the cover. Edited and assembled by George Maciunas. Artists include : George Brecht, Ay-O, Joe Jones, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles, Gyorgi Ligeti, Ben Patterson, Tomas Schmit, Chieko (Mieko) Shiomi, Ben Vautier, Emmett Williams, Robert Watts, La Monte Young & others. Each envelope-page contains printed matter and / or small objects. Envelopes bound throughout the book include: a page with a clear plastic glove printed with the text "a glove to be worn while examining Alison Knowles;" a folded monoprint with foot and hand prints in an envelope printed "Love-ko A.I. Napkins for next Supper; a double sided page printed on orange cardstock cut into eight angular pieces with a white business card sized paper that reads "please answer this question carefully. yes [ ] No [ ]; a small piece of paper printed with black and white image of a face with text "Chieko Shiomi Disappearing Music for Face" and a smaller manilla envelope with six increasingly smaller envelopes nesting within each other; an accordion fold text of "An Opera" by Emmett Williams and an accordion fold text piece which breaks down the alphabet into visual poetry; and the endcover envelope with contains two-sided page "Je Signe Tout Ben 1960" printed on one side and "Part of Robert Filliou's whispered art history" on the verso, as well as small printed fluxus thought pieces by Sohei Hashimoto, Dick Higgins, Nam June Paik, and Brion Gysin.
